Life Transitions Therapy

When life changes, relationships change – and that’s where we’ll work.

Separation, divorce, the death of a partner, moving home, retirement, starting or losing a job, becoming a parent – major transitions can bring grief, uncertainty and a loss of familiar roles. You might feel relief and sadness at the same time, struggle with sleep or decisions, or notice tension as people around you adapt at different speeds. None of this means you’re failing; it means something important has shifted.

I’m a qualified and accredited therapist with over 15 years’ clinical experience in NHS Talking Therapies services and private practice, specialising in high-intensity CBT and IPT for relationship difficulties, anxiety, depression and life changes.

With a warm, non-judgemental approach, we can work on helping you cope with big life changes and find a way to move forward with a renewed sense of purpose and acceptance.

Why you might be here

You might recognise yourself in some of these:

  • A big change has happened (or is coming) and you’re trying to find your feet again.

  • You’re carrying mixed feelings — relief and sadness, hope and guilt — and it’s hard to make sense of them.

  • You're feeling lost-unsure of what to do with your life next

  • You’ve lost a familiar role or identity, and you’re wondering, “What now?”

  • Other people are moving on at a different pace, and you feel lonely, irritated, or left behind.

  • You want a calmer way forward — clearer boundaries, steadier routines, and support that makes a difference.

You might be navigating a breakup, separation or divorce, adjusting to co-parenting, grieving the death of a partner or someone close, or starting over after moving home or country.

Work or career changes can bring their own kind of loss too — redundancy, retirement, burnout, or a major shift in direction. Becoming a parent, fertility struggles, children leaving home, or health changes can also stir up more than you expected.

You don’t have to be in crisis for this to be for you. Sometimes it’s simply about finding your footing again — gently, and at your pace.

How I help with life transitions

I work one-to-one, focusing on you and the changes you’re living through. Together we can:

Reflect on what has changed and find a way to move forward

We can talk through what has been lost with the transition, what has ended and how this makes you feel.  We can also explore ways of feeling more hopeful about the future, despite the changes that have occurred.  This may involve finding a new sense of purpose and identity.

Make space for grief (including mixed feelings)

Change often brings loss, even when it’s the right move. We’ll make room for sadness, relief, guilt, anger, or shock — without getting stuck in them — so you can begin to move forward.

Find your footing and rebuild routine

When life is in transition, everything can feel harder. We’ll break things down into small, doable steps — sleep, structure, decisions — so you’re not trying to rebuild your whole life in one go.

Navigate relationships, boundaries, and difficult conversations

Transitions affect other people too. I’ll help you communicate more clearly and calmly — what to say, how to say it, and where to set boundaries — especially when others have expectations, opinions, or are moving at a different pace.

Strengthen support and reduce isolation

We’ll map who’s in your corner, how to ask for what you need, and how to widen your support if it’s thin. The goal is to feel less alone with it — and more held up in the week-to-week.

Build confidence in the “new role”

Whether it’s single life, co-parenting, bereavement, relocation, retirement, or a new direction at work, we’ll help you adjust to the new shape of life. Not by forcing positivity — but by building the skills and confidence you need.

What sessions can look like

  • Free 30-minute consultation

A chance to outline what’s been happening, ask questions, and see if working together feels like a good fit.

  • Early sessions

We’ll get a clear picture of a timeline of significant events and changes in your life and explore the impact these have had on your relationships and your mental well-being.  We will also discuss your goals for therapy and what you would like to be different.

  • Ongoing work

  • Talking through what exactly has changed in your life, and processing any potential feelings of loss, grief, guilt, anger and confusion.

  • Exploring ways of adjusting to your new life and finding a renewed sense of purpose and meaning.

  • Working on strengthening your relationships, and possibly widening your social circle to accommodate the changes in your life.

  • Supporting you to take care of yourself emotionally around difficult interactions with others and during difficult moments.

  • Reviewing progress

We’ll regularly check what’s shifting and what still feels stuck, and adjust the focus so the work stays useful and relevant.

Ways life can start to feel a little easier

Over time, people often notice:

  • More hope about the future

  • A clearer sense of direction and purpose in life

  • Sleep and energy settling a little, with small routines that make days feel more manageable.

  • A clearer sense of your support network — and more confidence asking for what you need.

  • More ease with mixed feelings — making room for grief, relief, anger or uncertainty without feeling overwhelmed.

  • More clarity about what matters now for you, and the next small steps — even if the change wasn’t your choice.

Change is usually gradual rather than dramatic — but small, consistent shifts can make a real difference to how supported and capable you feel.
